On track for success – framework partners come together for charity cycle challenge!

On 27 March, NWCH framework partners descended on the National Cycling Centre in Manchester for their chance to ride on the famous track, which has played host to numerous World and Olympic track cycling records and medals over the years, and is a training base for British Cycling.

The event was proposed in the framework’s ‘Social Value’ special interest group, as a great way to bring client and contractor partners together for an energising morning at one of our iconic projects, and raise money for an amazing local charity at the same time.

ISG offered to host the event, led by social value team members, Santina Virk and Mary Ord, and project team colleagues, with support from the NWCH and fellow contractor partners.

The We Love MCR Charity was chosen for the fundraising. Supported by Manchester City Council, the charity gives heart, hope and opportunity to the people of Manchester, when they need it most.

The event featured representatives from Manchester City Council, NWCH, ISG, Morgan Sindall, Russell WBHO, Sir Robert McAlpine and Warden Construction, along with their guests. We also had a visit from the We Love MCR charity team to cheer our cyclists on.

Susie Harrison, business development manager at Warden Construction, said: “Thank you to all involved for organising such a fun and worthy event. Our team members and guests had a fantastic time and what an achievement with the funds raised!”

Joy Woods, senior social value manager at ISG, added: “This event really shows the value in NWCH contractor partners working together to generate social impact for communities. It’s our honour to support We Love Manchester to further their work with young people who need it most.”

To date, the event has raised over £2,600 which includes a donation from Manchester City Council’s small works framework partner, PLP Construction. ISG is match funding this, bringing the total to over £5,200, and further donations can be made on the Just Giving page.

Ged Carter, Head of We Love MCR Charity, said: “Thanks again for the great support, it was an excellent event! We will be using the funds raised to support our unique Manchester’s Rising Stars Fund. A lack of resources is holding back the talent of many talented young people – We Love Mcr has already helped to change the lives of over 200 Rising Stars, and we want to support many more.”

ISG is currently delivering a programme of modernisation and operational performance upgrades at the National Cycling Centre, procured through our high value framework. The project, now in its final phase, is being delivered in partnership with Manchester City Council, MCRActive, operator GLL, British Cycling and a range of other stakeholders.
