Great news as NWCH project ‘Lancaster School of Mathematics’ has been given planning permission and is due to start on site in October, being completed by Galliford Try for the Rigby Education Trust.
The Lancaster University School of Mathematics will be a specialist school for 16-19-year-old students with an exceptional aptitude and passion for mathematics and will open in September 2022. The new school will be based on a new site near Preston City Centre. All students will study A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics and one or two additional A Levels plus the LUSoM Award. Students will be able to study Computer Science, Physics and Chemistry alongside their maths studies at the Maths School or any other course offered at Cardinal Newman College.
The Maths School will be a distinct and unique specialist provider of outstanding mathematics teaching for students wanting to immerse themselves in a small close-knit community of like-minded scholars. It will provide exceptional teaching, a high-quality environment and resources with undergraduate-level content, for students from all backgrounds, within a learning community where talented and enthusiastic young mathematicians in years 12 and 13 can thrive.
Sponsored by Lancaster University and partnered by Cardinal Newman College, the Lancaster University School of Mathematics will be operated by the Rigby Education Trust. It will be located within Preston with its excellent transport links, and so the Maths School will be in a prime position to serve students across the North West. The site is close to the main campus of Cardinal Newman College, which enables some sharing of specialist and support services.
